| The network success is recognized and reported by the Edmonton Journal article on the Financial Post
environmental award as follows; "The Wood Buffalo Environmental Association has been named winner of the business partnership award in the
newspaper’s 1998 Environmental Award for Business. The award recognizes business-community partnerships which work towards reducing or eliminating
pollution.
Judges called the Wood Buffalo group a Canadian role model for community-driven environmental activities and
monitoring. It operates a multi-million dollar air-monitoring network. Data collected through monitoring stations is reported to Alberta
Environmental Protection. Information is available to the public through the Internet and a telephone hotline.
Group members include Environmental Protection, Alberta Health, Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation, Fort McKay First
Nations, Fort McMurray Environmental Association, Northern Lights Regional Health Authority, Northlands Forest Products Ltd., Pembina Institute for
Appropriate Development, Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, Shell Canada, Suncor Energy and Syncrude Canada.
